Frequently asked questions
SEM Global provides security risk consulting to mining and resources operations across Western Australia, Australia-wide, and internationally. Common questions we are asked:
What is a security risk assessment?
A security risk assessment is a structured evaluation of the threats, vulnerabilities and consequences facing your people, assets and operations. At SEM Global it follows a formal Threat, Vulnerability and Risk Assessment (TVRA) methodology, benchmarked against recognised Australian and international standards, so the findings are defensible and proportionate to your actual threat exposure.
What is ISO 28000 and do we need to comply with it?
ISO 28000 is the international standard for security management systems, widely used across supply chains and critical infrastructure. Compliance is not always mandatory, but aligning to it demonstrates due diligence, strengthens governance, and is increasingly expected by clients, insurers and regulators. We run independent audits and gap assessments against ISO 28000 and the relevant AS/NZS standards.
What does a security consultant actually deliver?
Typical deliverables include a Security Risk Assessment Report, risk registers and treatment plans, compliance and assurance mapping, and executive briefing papers, plus a fit-for-purpose Security Management Plan integrated into your operations with clear ownership and escalation pathways.
How is insider threat different from external security risk?
External risk comes from outside your perimeter; insider threat comes from people with legitimate access, such as employees, contractors or visitors. It calls for different controls: access governance, behavioural indicators, separation of duties and contractor management. We assess and mitigate both as part of a single security framework.
